Two months before the 50th Engadin Skimarathon, more than 11’300 participants have registered for the largest cross-country race in Switzerland. The great inter-est in the anniversary edition has forced the organizers to introduce a participant restriction.

The great interest in being part of the anniversary race already became apparent immediately after the opening of the online registration in the summer of 2017. The first concrete comparison with recent years could be made on 31.12. because the registration fees will increase as of January 1st. With more than 11'300 registered users, the highest ever registrations in the history of the Engadin Skimarathon as of the end of December can be reported. This is an increase of 24% compared to the previous year. The anniversary year, with an intensified and concentrated program, as well as already good snow conditions down to low altitudes at the beginning of winter, have contributed to the positive development of the registration process.

The high number of registrations has forced the organizers to think about a participant limit for the first time in the 50-year history. "So that the quality of the event can continue to be guaranteed and the logistical and organizational processes can take place as usual, it was decided to limit the number of participants to 14,200," explains Managing Director Menduri Kasper. "For us it is important that the event is and remains an adventure for all participants," Kasper continues, explaining the reasons why the number of participants has been limited. In the last few years, between January 1st and the start of the Engadin Skimarathon, around 4,000 people have registered. This year it is worth signing up as soon as possible, otherwise a starting place or the desired starting field can no longer be guaranteed.

The 19th Women's Race with more than 400 registered ladies, and the Engadin Night Race with more than 350 registered participants, are also showing very pleasing numbers. In these two races, the first increase of the entry fee will not take place until in mid-February.

The preparation for the Engadin Skimarathon and the additional races are proceeding according to plan. The cross-country ski trails in the Upper Engadin span more than 200 kilometers and the marathon trail can be explored almost continuously.
