The first participation in the FIS Marathon Cup of the Engadin Skimarathon Team, consisting of the three Swiss elite skiers Seraina Boner, Seraina Mischol and Ursina Badilatti, was very successful and certainly added to the interest of the ladies’ category. Three victories, in Dolomitenlauf and Birkebeiner by Seraina Boner and Marcialonga, where Seraina Mischol set a new record, as well as two second and one third places resulted from their efforts.
The team was created only last summer. It was under the guidance of Guri Hetland, coach of the Swiss National Team and wife of the world famous former cross-country skiing champion Tor Arne Hetland. Considering the fact that the three ladies had not yet laid their main focus on the cup – they participated also in other important races – and the limited resources at their disposal, their great performances are to be appreciated even more. Not only were they attending the races as skiers, at the same time they were ambassadors of the Engadin Skimarathon, representing this important cross-country skiing event in the Swiss Alps.
By concentrating almost 100 % on the FIS Marathon Cup and by optimizing the specific trainings, schedules etc., they are aiming at the first places of the series of 2011/12. In favour of the FIS Marathon Cup Seraina Boner will even forgo her status as member of the A squad in the Swiss National Team. The team will be guided in the coming season by the experienced Swiss coach Christoph Schmid. After the nomination of Guri Hetland as head coach of the Swiss National Team, she will not have enough time to continue coaching the Engadin Skimarathon Team as well.
