After a hard contested winter season the project Engadin Skimarathon Team will not continue. The goals set at the beginning of the season could not be reached. Furthermore there is a lack of athletes and the financial background is missing.
After only two years the Engadin Skimarathon Team has to be disbanded although the prelude was very promising. During the first season Seraina Boner reached a place on the podium several times and became 3rd in the overall ranking of the FIS Marathon Cup. The team started their summer training in June, very motivated to work with their new coach Christoph Schmid. The goal was clearly defined – the overall victory of the FIS Marathon Cup.
Unfortunately everything turned out different. One bad news followed the other. Seraina Boner left the Engadin Skimarathon Team in the middle of the preparation for the season to join the Scandinavian team Exspirit. Shortly after that Seraina Mischol was diagnosed with CIS. Despite her positive attitude and fighting spirit, she had to realize at the beginning of February, that this illness affects her performance far more than expected and it was no longer possible to achieve her goals. Ursina Badilatti was the only one left in the team. After a good preparation she was hit back by a tenacious influenza during the crucial time of the season.
The potential of Swiss long distance cross country skiers does not exist. Therefore it is not possible to form a team which is internationally competitive. On the contrary to Scandinavia, where the long distance races have increased enormously in the number of participants as well as the interest in the races. Due to these circumstances it is not possible to reach the marketing goals of the Engadin Skimarathon.
