The last year’s winner of the Engadin Skimarathon, the 37 year old Antonella Confortola from Italy dominated this year’s Engadin Skimarathon Frauenlauf 2012.
The top athletes showed that they’re in a good shape and a group of six ladies took the lead. After passing the village of Zuoz the Italian skier Antonella Confortola began to speed up and continuously extended her lead. Confortola won in a time of 41.26,2 the 13th edition of this women’s race finally 2.34 minutes ahead of Ursina Badilatti as second (Engadin Skimarathon Team) and Claudia Schmid (SUI) on the third rank. The 17 kilometre distance of the Frauenlauf served Confortola as a perfect preparation for next Sunday’s 44th Engadin Skimarathon. One week before the race she’s definitely in a good shape and will start as one of the favourites at next week’s 42 kilometre race.
At the 13th Frauenlauf the weather was awaiting the participating ladies with slight snowfall in the morning. The temperatures during the night slightly beyond the freezing point provided great conditions on the trails. On time for the race-start the sun showed up over the Engadin Valley and accompanied the 852 ladies from Samedan to S-chanf. The organizing committee of the Engadin Skimarathon is satisfied with the race and the current snow and weather conditions.
