At the Engadin Women's Race on 3 March, the International Ski Federation FIS checked compliance with the fluor wax ban. The skis of the top six finishers and a random sample of 16 pairs of skis among the other finishers were tested for fluor wax. Two of the top six racers and an additional two participants were found to be using the banned fluor waxes. All four offenders were disqualified.

The organising committee of the Engadin Skimarathon is deeply disappointed with these results. It condemns all attempts by athletes to gain an unfair advantage through the use of the prohibited fluor waxes. Using a forbidden wax goes against the rules of fair play and harms nature.

Two-year ban

The testing of skis for fluor wax will be ratcheted up at the Engadin Skimarathon on 10 March. As monitoring all participants will be impossible, all racers in the top ranks and a random sample of all other participants will be checked. All disqualified athletes will be named on the ranking lists, which are published. Furthermore, these athletes will be barred from entering a competition of the Engadin Skimarathon for two years, which will have a knock-on effect on their starting place after the ban.

In the best interest of fairness and environmental protection, the organising committee calls on all participants to strictly adhere to the ban on fluor waxes.
