The Engadin Skimarathon to start in Silvaplana

Sunday's Engadin Skimarathon will start in Silvaplana. The heavy snowfall and mild temperatures of the last two weeks have made it impossible to prepare the cross-country tracks on Lake Silvaplana. Thursday evening's Night Race will now lead from La Punt to Pontresina.

Water and slush a knee deep cover the ice layer of Lake Silvaplana, making it impossible to prepare the cross-country tracks between Sils and Silvaplana. For that reason, the start of the Engadin Skimarathon 2024 has to be moved to Silvaplana. The new distance from Silvaplana to S-chanf will be between 38 and 40 kilometres. The changes will not greatly affect the starting modalities for the participants: the starting times remain unchanged; the shuttle bringing the racers to the start and the transfer of their personal belongings stay in place.

Engadin Night Race to start in La Punt

The Engadin Night Race on Thursday evening will not be able to set off in Sils. It will now begin in La Punt, then take the racers along the airport and the golf course to finish in Pontresina. The distance covered will be approximately 16 kilometres. The starting time remains unchanged (7 PM). Transfers for both racers and their belongings are available.

«We want our participants to be affected as little as possible by the difficulties we encounter in preparing the cross-country tracks,» Menduri Kasper explains. «So, we are doing our very best to put in place the best possible infrastructure for our participants in the short time we have. No matter the circumstances, participating in the Engadin Skimarathon should be a great experience and become a beautiful memory.»
